The Art of Hosting: How I Create a Retreat Experience That Feels Like Home

When women join a Maison d’Amies retreat, they’re not just signing up for a vacation—they’re stepping into a thoughtfully curated experience designed to feel like home, only better. From the moment they arrive, I want every guest to feel welcome, cared for, and free to fully enjoy the magic of France. But creating that effortless, warm, and immersive retreat doesn’t just happen by chance—there’s an art to hosting, and it’s something I take seriously (while having plenty of fun along the way!).

Curating Every Detail—So You Don’t Have To

Before a retreat even begins, I’m working behind the scenes to craft an experience that’s seamless, special, and completely stress-free. That means scouting the best local chefs, partnering with guides who bring history and culture to life, and building an itinerary that balances exploration with relaxation. Every meal, every sip of wine, every tucked-away village we visit is chosen with care.

And of course, I take on the very tough job of taste-testing wine, sampling pastries, and meeting with locals to ensure every experience meets my (admittedly high) standards. It’s a sacrifice, but someone has to do it! 😉

The Balance of Structure and Spontaneity

One of the most important aspects of hosting a retreat is getting the balance just right. I create an itinerary that offers incredible experiences, but I also leave room for those serendipitous moments—whether that’s an impromptu rosé tasting at a vineyard we stumble upon or a leisurely morning spent at a village market.

Many of my guests arrive feeling like they need to see and do it all, but I encourage them to embrace a slower, more intentional way of traveling. You don’t have to check every box to have a meaningful experience—in fact, it’s often the unscripted moments that leave the biggest impact.

Creating a Welcoming, Judgment-Free Space

Stepping into a new environment—especially as a solo traveler—can feel intimidating, which is why I focus on fostering a warm, inclusive atmosphere where every guest feels at ease. There’s no pressure to “fit in” or keep up; whether you want to hike through vineyards or sip espresso at a café all afternoon, your experience is entirely your own. My retreats are also a celebration of body positivity and self-confidence. I want every woman to feel comfortable in her own skin, enjoy incredible food without guilt, and embrace the joy of simply being in a beautiful place.

The Little Touches That Make a Big Difference

The art of hosting is often found in the smallest details—the handwritten welcome notes, the perfectly timed aperitif, the way a cozy corner of a villa becomes the perfect gathering space for late-night laughter and conversation. These moments aren’t accidental; they’re carefully considered because I know they’re what truly make a retreat special.

At the end of every trip, I want my guests to feel like they’ve made lifelong connections—not just with the place, but with the people they’ve shared it with. And that’s what makes every moment of planning, hosting, and curating absolutely worth it.
